Plant Face
Plant Face
Original acrylic painting professionally framed and ready to hang.
76x60cm, framed in Raw Tasmanian Oak
A little bit odd, a little bit joyful, and very much not taking itself too seriously. Plant Face brings together a woman, a red bowler hat and a potted plant in a playful balancing act, with the pot's face adding an extra dose of personality.
This painting was made at a time when I was trying lots of different approaches and taking inspiration from artists I loved. Somewhere along the way, this piece felt like a turning point — the first time I looked at something I'd made and thought, this feels like me.
The woman is actually me, photographed while celebrating the building of a deck at my first home. I took the real-life moment and stripped away the setting, keeping only the playful pose, bold shapes and slightly odd combination of objects.
Quirky, minimal and full of personality, Plant Face is a little reminder that art doesn't always need to make perfect sense to make you smile.
